Jul 2022 – latest AAA consumer survey

75 percent of Americans are NOT considering buying an electric vehicle (BEV, not hybrid) for their next auto purchase.

Just did a Road Trip across USA via Yellowstone. Twice used destination chargers overnight rest was Tesla Superchargers (55 stops).
5750 miles done in 2 weeks.

Only once had to hyper mile to reach the next Charger, arrived with 4%. On another occasion arrived with 0%, but did not hyper mile.

I have sometimes felt the temptation to do that. In theory your Tesla can probably go another 20 miles when it hits zero but it differs for every car and I don't want to have to find out what the number actually is.

I will say with superchargers going up in price -- now as much as $25 to $30 for a 50kwh "fill up" the value of charging at the hotel has gone up, which makes it easier to do it more often as your budget goes up. If the supercharge will be $30, and you put a modest value on not having to wait for charging or travel out of your way to the supercharger, plus another modest value on treating your battery better -- you start being willing to pay $40 or more extra to get a hotel with charging. With the benefit that most of that $40 gets you a better hotel, too.
